Biography

Already an obsessive music fan at the age of six, when she stuck a ‘I Am a Duran Duran Fan’-poster to her bedroom door and desperately waited for that one sticker (the Simon LeBon one) to make her Panini Smash Hits Collection Sticker Book complete, Katia eats, drinks, breathes and oozes pop culture.

In 2003, she landed a job as a music journalist with the magazine she tore her first Duran Duran picture out of as a kid: HUMO. A regular contributor to Humo’s legendary TTT-pages, over the past seven years Katia has interviewed everyone who is someone in the international music business.

She got her break in radio in 2009 at Studio Brussel: she ‘hijacked’ the station’s wave-length every Sunday at noon with ROCK AHOY, a theme time radio hour mixing contemporary indie music with sixties garage rock, punk, uptempo soul and big ballads from the Brill Building era.

A postmodern wink to offshore pirate radios broadcasting ‘rebellious’ music that national radio didn’t play, Rock Ahoy introduced the StuBru audience to an alternative and heavily romanticised (hey, the girl can’t help it!) music history, whilst also plugging new exciting alternative bands.

2010 saw Katia releasing a triple Rock Ahoy compilation (in collaboration with EMI, Humo and Studio Brussel). ‘Vol. 1 Madness’ featured euphoric rock songs by The Yardbirds, The Kinks, Babyshambles…, ‘Vol. 2 Sadness’ featured heroically sad songs by Sandie Shaw, The Noisettes, Marvin Gaye… and ‘Vol. 3 Badness’ featured rebellious anthems by The Shangri-Las, Glasvegas, Bo Diddley…

As a dj, Katia plays a hard but soulful set of garage, punk, indie & uptempo soul tunes.
All killer, no filler!
